Getting started guide for a MechanicWeb hosting account

If you are new to MechanicWeb, you might need some help with your website configuration. We have prepared this summary to help you quickly locate guides on how to use some essential features on our servers.

  • Sending Email From WordPress and Websites - We use SMTP instead of PHP mail()/sendmail to facilitate additional protection against unsolicited email and spam outbursts from malformed or compromised scripts. The ability to use external SMTP servers is disabled by default.

An easy way to use SMTP to send email from WordPress is included in the guide below.

  • FTP - We use FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS) and SFTP for secure FTP connections.

  • SSH - We use Key Pair instead of plaintext passwords to harden SSH security.

We also automatically optimize WordPress websites on Shared, Reseller, and Semi Dedicated Hosting. You can disable it if you want.
