High Frequency Compute is the ability to perform high speed computation tasks. A High Frequency Compute Server is built using high clock speed CPUs with high single core performance and high speed NVMe SSD storage.


High Clock Speed CPU

A high clock speed or high frequency CPU has high single core performance, measured in clock speeds. Typical server CPUs have 2 - 3 GHz clock speeds. A recent generation CPU with a 3.4+ GHz base clock speed or up to 5.7 GHz turbo clock speed is considered a high clock speed CPU.

Benefits of High Clock Speed CPU

PHP and MySQL run faster on high clock speed CPUs.


A CPU can have many cores, but it is the single core performance that matters more than the combined performance of all the cores for WordPress, Joomla, and other PHP and MySQL based websites.


This is because each PHP and MySQL process is processed by a single core, one core per process. The faster the core, the faster the performance is. A CPU with faster single core performance processes a task faster. A 5.7 GHz CPU can get much more work done in the same amount of time as a 2 GHz CPU.


When a visitor visits a PHP based website, the server creates a PHP worker process and assigns a single CPU core for that process to generate the web page. Similarly, when your website performs a database query, the server creates a process and assigns a single CPU core for that process to query the MySQL database.


As soon as these processes are complete, the website is served to the visitor. The faster the CPU core, the faster the process will complete and the faster the performance will be.


This performance is much more noticeable in WordPress or WooCommerce contexts because there are just so many more tasks to be completed as they use multiple PHP scripts and MySQL queries in their pages. Multiple tasks also need to be completed when multiple visitors visit a web page at the same time.


The faster each task gets processed, the faster the website will be.
